The Communications Division has been growing and developing into a very modern facility. The communitcations officers are certified through the Department of Public Safety. They are responsible for taking calls and dispatching for Fire, EMS, and Police. They also do their own NCIC searches as well as answer all 911 calls for the Ruidoso area. The number of calls, emergency and non-emergency combined, have gone up in the last 5 years from approximately 500 to 800 calls per month.

This is our dispatch center, along with a couple of smilin' dispatchers.
Our dispatchers also aid the police
officers on a daily basis. |

Thanks to the diligence, research, and hard work from our 911 Coordinator, Cory Pezzente, our dispatch center got a major upgrade through a grant from the Department of Finance. Here are the pictures of the work in progress and the finished project.

Now, our dispatchers can effectively do their job with the new Positron 911 system to include Power Mapping. Every time a 911 call comes in, it automatically shows the location of the caller on the map so the dispatchers can pin point the exact location. The dispatch consoles can be adjusted to fit each dispatcher's comfort level, to include raising or lowering the console, fans, and a heated foot support.
